New tailgating area at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium highlights 2018 Kansas football game day updates

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas Athletics, in partnership with Jayhawk IMG Sports Marketing, will be bringing several updates to Kansas football Saturdays highlighted by a new tailgating option at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium this fall with the Gameday On The Hill area, which will be located immediately south of the stadium at the base of Campanile Hill. Gameday On The Hill will feature food, beverages, retail and live music in the heart of one of the most scenic settings in college football.

Free and open to the public, Gameday On The Hill will feature something for fans of all ages.  All fans will be able to enjoy Pepsi products and food from a selection of local food trucks. Fans over the age of 21 will find Coors Light, Miller Light, Blue Moon, and red and white wine. Picnic tables will be provided throughout the area, giving families a great option to gather and enjoy pregame at KU. For those shopping for the latest in KU gear, Rally House will operate a full team shop within the Gameday On The Hill area.

Campanile Hill is considered to be one of the most beautiful tailgating settings in the country and the Gameday On The Hill area is designed to allow fans a convenient way to enjoy football Saturdays on the KU campus. In addition to food and beverage options, local bands will provide live music during pregame of each Kansas football game. The entertainment will kick off Saturday with Shoe Box Money, winners of the 2018 Farmers Ball Battle of the Bands, performing on the Gameday On The Hill stage.

Gameday On The Hill will also give fans a prime location from which to enjoy KU football’s Hawk Walk, marking the Jayhawks’ arrival to Memorial Stadium two hours prior to kickoff. Fans at Gameday On The Hill can also catch the Marching Jayhawks’ parade down the hill, the pregame pep rally, and also have convenient access to the Hawk Zone activity area located on the football practice fields.

Keys to Gameday

1. Security Measures
Following the best practices recommended by the Department of Homeland Security and National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security as well as state law, additional security measures will be in place for all football games in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. These measures aim to provide a safer environment for all in attendance and improve the guest experience by expediting screening and entry into the stadium.

All persons – game day staff and ticketed guests – are subject to screening before entering David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. Walk-through metal detectors will be the primary means of screening. For guests who are unable to utilize a walk-through metal detector, hand-held metal detectors will be used with physical pat-downs as a final alternative option. Any person who does not consent to screening will be denied entry into the stadium. For more information on what is and is not allowed in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, please review the Clear Bag policy and the Prohibited Items.

Guests with tickets in hand are strongly encouraged to use the screening area and entry gate closest to their parking area or pre-game event location. In many cases, this will expedite entry. To help ensure that guests are in their seats by game time, all guests are encouraged to make their way to the entry points at least one (1) hour prior to game time. Fans who leave at halftime must be re-screened prior to re-entry.

Designated entry points are located as follows:

  • Student Entrance: Gate 18 – North East corner
  • Credentialed Entrance (Media and others with approved game day credentials): Gate 35 – South end, Gate 11 – Northwest Corner, Gate 4 – West Side, Gate 21 – East Side.
  • Screening Accommodations: All guests and personal items (including assistive devices) are subject to screening and search before entering David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. Guests with disabilities who are willing to utilize walk-through metal detectors are encouraged to do so; however, these lanes are not accessible for wheelchairs and other assistive devices. Guests with medical devices should consult their doctor or device manufacturer if unsure of their ability to use a walk-through metal detector. Guests should notify Event Staff that they have a medical device and will be assisted through the screening process.
  • A Bag Check will be provided at a $5 charge for those wishing to not walk back to their vehicles.
