KU tennis signs accomplished champion

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas tennis head coach Todd Chapman announced that Carmen Roxana Manu has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) during the early signing period to play for the Jayhawks.

Manu, a native of Constanta, Romania, has held a ranking as high No. 252 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

“We are extremely excited to announce the signing of Roxana and are so happy to have her join our Kansas tennis family,” said Chapman. “Roxana has a big attacking game style that we believe will only continue to grow and develop at the collegiate level.”

A proven winner, Manu is a nine-time Romanian national champion who was ranked No. 1 in Romania in U14 and U16. In the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals, Manu finished in fifth place.

“We expect Roxana to come in immediately and make an impact on our team,” said Chapman. “Roxana is serious about the direction of her tennis and we are thankful she chose (assistant coach) Caroline (Lilley), myself and Kansas to help her reach her goals and dreams on and off the court.”

Manu will join the Jayhawks in the fall for the start of the 2019-20 season.
