As Kansas Basketball begins to turn its attention to the 2020-21 season, it’s time to meet the new faces that will be joining the Jayhawks in the near future. Today, we welcome Bryce Thompson, a five-star guard with an elite knack to score. The two-time Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year hails from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa.

Thompson will wear No. 24 for the Jayhawks next season. He will be the 16^th KU player to wear the number, which most recently belonged to Lagerald Vick, who donned it during his senior season in 2018-19. Other Jayhawks to have No. 24 under Bill Self include Travis Releford (2009-13) and Sasha Kaun (2005-08). A pair of all-league performers also claimed the number in Al Kelley, who was a two-time All-Big Seven pick in 1953 and 1954, as well as Ken Koenigs, who earned All-Big Eight honors in 1978.

BRYCE THOMPSON (Fr., G, 6-5, 185, Tulsa, Okla., Booker T. Washington HS)

Bryce Thompson was named the Gatorade Oklahoma Boys Player of the Year his junior (2019) and senior (2020) seasons.
He averaged 24.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists in leading Booker T. Washington High School to a 20-5 record in 2019-20.
Booker T. Washington advanced to the 2020 Oklahoma 6A state semifinals before the coronavirus ended the season.
A five-star recruit who signed with Kansas in Nov. 2019, Thompson is ranked No. 19 by Rivals, No. 20 by 247Sports.com and No. 26 by ESPN100.
As a junior, Thompson averaged 19.6 points, 5.2 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.
His junior season, Booker T. Washington won the 2019 6A state title.
In addition to English, Thompson speaks French fluently.
Thompson has participated in USA Basketball Junior National Team mini-camps.
Thompson’s father, Rod Thompson, played for Bill Self while at Tulsa in the 1990s and his grandfather, Marshall Rogers, played at Kansas in 1973.
