LAWRENCE, Kan. - For the fourth-consecutive year, Kansas student-athletes have tied the department Graduation Success Rate (GSR) score of 90 percent, as the NCAA released its GSR on Nov. 21.
Five KU teams – men's golf, women's golf, swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball – achieved a perfect 100 percent GSR, while all the other KU sponsored sports had at least an 82 percent or higher individual GSR.
The most recent GSR data is based on student-athletes who entered freshmen classes from 2014 to 2017. The 90 percent success rate by Jayhawk student-athletes marks the 11th-straight year that the department has posted a success rate of at least 82 percent.
The GSR was designed as an improved measurement tool for monitoring student-athletes' academic progress leading toward graduation. It was part of the NCAA's academic reform initiative to measure the academic success rate more accurately of Division I student-athletes.
In addition to the aforementioned five sports with a 100 percent GSR, four other sports – softball (96) women's basketball (94), women's cross country/track & field (91) and soccer (91) – achieved a percentage of 90 or better.
The strong GSR score follows a record-setting semester in the classroom for KU student-athletes. In the spring of 2024, the Jayhawks combined for a department grade point average of 3.40, which tied non-COVID era record for the third consecutive semester. Every Kansas sport program posted a 3.0 team GPA or higher during the spring 2024 semester and KU had 101 student-athletes achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA. Additionally, 80 percent of student-athletes earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll honors, and 293 student-athletes posted a 3.00-3.99 GPA.
