LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Director of Athletics and Vice Chancellor Travis Goff has been named to Ingram's Magazine's "50 Kansans You Should Know" for 2024. Goff, who took over leadership of the department in April of 2021, was included in this year's class, which marks the 14th year of the program.
Ingram's, a leading business publication in Kansas and Missouri for 50 years, released its list earlier this month and included it in its 50th Anniversary special edition that is currently available. The full class, including Goff, can be viewed here on Ingram's website.
A Dodge City native, Goff has made a major impact at Kansas throughout his time as Athletic Director. Jayhawk student-athletes have thrived under Goff's leadership, both in competition and in the classroom. Kansas student-athletes combined for a spring 2024 GPA of 3.40, which tied a non-COVID era program record. That record was established in the spring of 2023 and then matched again in the fall, before being hit for a third time last spring. Kansas also led the Big 12 in the spring with 124 student-athletes being named to the 2024 Spring Academic All-Big 12 Team.
While succeeding in the classroom, several programs throughout the department have had unprecedented success since Goff's arrival. His tenure has included the 2022 Men's Basketball National Championship, back-to-back bowl game appearances for the football program for the first time in more than 15 years, back-to-back NCAA regional hosting duties for volleyball, a Big 12 Conference Tournament championship for soccer, three straight tournament titles for women's golf, which established a new school record, two NCAA appearances for women's basketball and a WNIT title and several other accomplishments.
Much of the success has come under the direction of coaches that Goff has hired during his tenure. Football coach Lance Leipold has led the program to 20 wins over the past three seasons. Prior to that, Kansas had won 20 games over the previous 11 seasons. Soccer coach Nate Lie led the team to the Big 12 Tournament title in his first year, while women's golf coach Lindsay Kuhle has led her team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and baseball coach Dan Fitzgerald led the program to 15 Big 12 wins in his second year, which tied the most conference wins in a season in program history.
A Dodge City High School alum, Goff graduated from Kansas in 2002 and worked at Tulane and Northwestern, prior to being named Director of Athletics of the Jayhawks in 2021. Goff's full bio can be viewed here.
