LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman forward
Jaliya Davis has been named to the inaugural Big 12 Starting Five for the opening week of the 2025-26 season, the league announced Monday.
The Big 12 Women's Basketball Starting Five is voted on by a media panel that votes on weekly honors that include the player and freshman of the week. The five honored highlight additional strong performances from across the conference.
Davis scored in double figures in each of the first two games of her career. She battled foul trouble to finish with 10 points and four rebounds in just 15 minutes during the opener against Kansas City on Wednesday, then followed that with a career-high 28 points and five rebounds on Sunday against Northwestern State.
From Overland Park, Kansas, Davis averaged 19.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game across two games. She shot 66.7 percent (14-21) from the field and hit 10 free throws. She is currently second on the team in scoring and third in rebounding, while leading the Jayhawks in field goal percentage.
This is the first career weekly honor for Davis, who is the highest-ranked recruit to sign with Kansas since the ESPNW rankings began in 2007. A five-star prospect ranked No. 19 in the country, Davis is only the third McDonald's All-American to play at Kansas and the second to sign with KU out of high school.
Davis and the Jayhawks are 2-0 on the year following victories over Kansas City and Northwestern State. Kansas returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 12, hosting Lamar at 6:30 p.m. CT from Allen Fieldhouse. Single game tickets for the 2025-26 Kansas women's basketball season are on sale now.
