LAWRENCE, Kan. — For the second time this season, Kansas sophomore
Flory Bidunga has been named to the Big 12 Men's Basketball Starting Five, the league announced today. This marks the third time this season a Jayhawk has been named to the Big 12 Starting Five as freshman
Darryn Peterson was a member of the inaugural selection Nov. 10., while Bidunga was named Nov. 17.
The Big 12 Men's Basketball Starting Five is voted on by a media panel that votes on weekly honors that include the player and newcomer of the week. The five honored highlight additional strong performances from across the conference.
Bidunga averaged a double-double (14.7 ppg, 10.0 rpg) in Kansas' 3-0 record at the Players Era last week in Las Vegas. In the win against Notre Dame, the Kinshaasa, Democratic Republic of Congo native, scored 18 points with nine rebounds, a career-high five assists and a season-high five blocked shots. In the win versus Syracuse, Bidunga recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and a season-high 14 rebounds to go along with three assists and two blocked shots. In the win versus No. 17 Tennessee, Bidunga had 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. He has recorded three or more blocked shots in five of eight games this season.
No. 21 Kansas (6-2) is set to host No. 5 UConn (6-1) on Tuesday, Dec. 2. Tip from Allen Fieldhouse will be at 8 p.m. (Central) and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
