SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Kansas graduate
Hunter Dickinson has been named a 2025 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award Top 10 candidate, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Friday.
This is the second straight year Dickinson has been named to a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Top 10 candidate, which is part of the Hall of Fame Men's Starting Five awards. Historically, Kansas has won two such honors, with Frank Mason III winning the 2017 Bob Cousy Point Gurad of the Year Award and Jalen Wilson the 2023 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award.
Named after Class of 1995 Hall of Famer and three-time NCAA Champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the annual honor, in its 11th year, recognizes the top center in Division I men's college basketball.
Joining Dickinson on the list is Robbie Avila (Saint Louis), Nate Bittle (Oregon), Oscar Cluff (South Dakota State), Dawson Garcia (Minnesota), Vladislav Goldin (Michigan), Ryan Kalkbrenner (Creighton), Asa Newell (Georgia), Derik Queen (Maryland) and Maxime Raynaud (Stanford). Players can play their way onto and off the list at any point in the 2024-25 season.
A two-time Wooden All-American in 2021 at Michigan and 2024 at Kansas, this season Dickinson has seven 20-point efforts and leads Kansas in scoring at 16.3 ppg, which ranks fourth in the Big 12. The Alexandria, Virginia, native also leads KU in rebounding at 9.6 rpg, which is second in the Big 12 and 16th nationally. A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week in 2024-25, Dickinson is second in the Big 12 in double-doubles (9), which is 18th nationally. Dickinson is second on the team with 33 blocked shots and is also second on the team with 24 steals.
On most every midseason All-America team, Dickinson is a two-time Consensus All-America Second Team selection in 2021 and 2024, and is the only active player in NCAA Division I to have more than 2,500 career points and 1,300 career rebounds. Dickinson also ranks first among active players in career points (2,567), field goals made (1,039), and is third in rebounds with 1,360 and double-doubles with 57.
