LAWRENCE, Kan. - Senior Alexander Jung won the Big 12 Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
Jung received the honor after breaking his own school record in points for the Men's Decathlon with 7,738 points at the Jim Click Invite in Tucson, Ariz. Within the Decathlon event, Jung won the 110-meter hurdles, the Pole Vault, and ran a personal record time in the 400 meters.
Jung ranks first in the Big 12 and second in the country for Decathlon this outdoor season. The senior has five of the top 10 performances in the Decathlon in Kansas Track and Field history. Jung is still riding the momentum from the indoor season, where he took ninth place at the NCAA Indoor Nationals in the Men's Heptathlon, where he has the school record in that event as well.Â
Jung will compete next at the 102nd Kansas Relays, taking place at Rock Chalk Park from April 17-19. Fans are encouraged to buy tickets before the start of the event.Â
