LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head coach Bill Self has announced the guard Nginyu Ngala from Montreal, Quebec, Canada has signed a financial aid agreement to play basketball for the Jayhawks. Ngala comes to KU as a graduate for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
A 5-foot-10 point guard, Ngala has played the past four seasons at schools in Canada, spending three seasons with Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, before playing last year for Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He averaged 14.8 points per game over his four seasons, scoring 1,080 career points. Ngala also averaged 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 36.0 percent (147-408) from three and 85.2 percent (195-229) from the free throw line.
"We had one roster spot remaining and we thought we addressed a need in that now we have a backup point guard who we feel is very capable with his maturity and skillset to play minutes on our team," Self said. "Nginyu is quick, he can shoot, and he should be a great example, not only on the court how to play, but also in the locker room."
Ngala becomes the 10th newcomer added to the 2025-26 Kansas roster, joining freshman Darryn Peterson, Samis Calderon, Bryson Tiller, Kohl Rosario, Paul Mbiya, and Corbin Allen and transfer additions Melvin Council Jr. (St. Bonaventure), Jayden Dawson (Loyola Chicago) and Tre White (Illinois).
