Jaliya Davis Named Big 12 Freshman of the Week

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Standout Kansas forward Jaliya Davis has been named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week after scoring more than 20 points in back-to-back conference games to open 2026. The conference announced its weekly awards on Monday.

Davis made an immediate impact in her return to the lineup after missing 10 games due to injury. She averaged 23.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 73.1 percent (19-26) from the field. Davis put up 21 points and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds as she played 32 minutes Thursday against West Virginia. In Sunday's 83-68 victory at UCF, she knocked down 10-of-12 field goal attempts and scored a team-high 26 points to go along with five rebounds and a career-best two blocked shots.

A five-star prospect and McDonald's All-American from Overland Park, Kansas, Davis has scored at least 10 points in all five games she's played in, with three games of 20 or more points. Davis is averaging 20.0 points per game on 68.4 percent (39-57) field goal shooting, while also grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game.

This is the first Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor for Davis, who previously earned a spot on the Big 12 Starting Five on Nov. 10. Kansas has now had a player claim a Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor in each of the past three seasons, as Davis joins teammates Regan Williams (Dec. 9, 2024) and S'Mya Nichols (Dec. 11, 2023; Jan. 15, 2024) in receiving the honor.

As the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, Davis is included as a member of the Big 12 Women's Basketball Starting Five, which is voted on by a media panel to recognize strong performances from across the conference. Kansas players have now earned four Starting Five honors this season, with two apiece for Davis and Nichols (Dec. 1; Dec. 8).
