Jayhawks Continue to Shine on Day Two at ITA Central Region

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas tennis continued competition on day two of the ITA Central Region Championships in Memphis, Tennessee, with the Jayhawks looking to build on their performances from the opening day.
In main-draw singles action, Kyoka Kubo earned a dominant 6-4, 6-1 victory over Iowa's Mia Sosa. Yerkezhan Arystanbekova followed with a strong 6-2, 6-2 win over Missouri's Millie Skelton, while Anna Putilina secured a hard-fought 7-6, 7-5 victory over Iowa State's Stanislava Shulzhenko. Nahyeong Cho capped off the Jayhawks' main-draw singles success with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kansas State's Martaa Chogsomjav. The three Jayhawks will compete in the Round of 32 on Oct. 17.
In B Draw singles action, Simryn Jacob opened with a strong performance, defeating Oral Roberts' Milana Bozhko, 6-3, 6-1. Jacob advanced to the Round of 16, where she faced UMKC's Sophie Munks in a hard-fought three-set match, ultimately falling 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
Kansas found success in main-draw doubles action, with both Jayhawk duos advancing to the quarterfinals. Meg McCarty and Cho opened with a closely contested 8-7 victory over Nebraska's Emma Rizzetto and Neda Rahimkhani. The pair then advanced to the Round of 16, where they defeated Missouri's Danielle Dai Chapman and Alexandra Irina Anghel, 8-4.
Kubo and Polina Koneva also put together a strong performance, earning an 8-6 victory over Iowa's Mia Sosa and Emerey Gross. The duo followed with an 8-4 win over Kansas State's Martaa Chogsomjav and Maralgoo Chogsomjav to secure their place in the quarterfinals.
Both Jayhawk doubles teams will continue competition in the quarterfinals.
