WACO, Texas - The Kansas women's tennis team headed into day three of the H-E-B Invitational in Waco, Texas, looking to build on its strong performances through the first two days of competition. The Jayhawks continued competing in singles and doubles action as they looked to close out the tournament on a high note.
Polina Koneva opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Baylor's Luna Ivkovic, giving the Jayhawks early momentum.
Caroline Manzi battled through a hard-fought three-set match to secure another victory for the Jayhawks, overcoming UTSA's Giuliana Giardina, 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2. After dropping the opening set, Manzi rallied to take the second-set tiebreaker before closing out the match in the third.
Simryn Jacob added another victory for the Jayhawks with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Iowa State's Kira Smith, continuing Kansas' strong showing in singles play.
In doubles action, Yerkezhan Arystanbekova and Anna Putilina teamed up to secure an 8-3 victory over Baylor's Gabrielle Villegas and Duanrui Gao, adding another win to the Jayhawks' column.Â
