LAWRENCE, Kan. -Â The USTFCCCA announced its All-Academic Award teams Thursday afternoon, honoring teams from across the country that excelled in the classroom and on the course. The Jayhawks' men's and women's teams were both honored with team All-Academic Awards, with the men's team achieving a 3.61 GPA and the women's team achieving a 3.69 GPA.
Kansas also had two individual athletes earn All-Academic Awards in Emmah Jemutai and Reagan Kibet.Â
Kibet, a redshirt-freshman from Kenya, earned All-Regional recognition this season after his 25th place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regionals. In addition to his 25th place finish at Regionals, Kibet was a top finisher for Kansas in all four meets he ran in.Â
Kibet, a pre-business major, earned All-Academic recognition for achieving a GPA of 3.25 or better and earning All-Regional honors.
Jemutai represented Kansas at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and also earned All-Academic recognition because of her success in the classroom and 12th place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regionals. Jemutai is majoring in Liberal Arts & Science.
In addition to the strong academic performance, the redshirt-sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, was named a captain for the Kansas Track & Field team and was a consistent top finisher for the cross country team, finishing no lower than 42nd throughout the season.Â
The academic awards from the USTFCCCA are the second set of awards the Jayhawks have received in the past week, with 14 runners also receiving Big 12 All-Academic recognitions on Thursday afternoon.Â
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships.
