LAWRENCE, Kan. – The historic run of Kansas forward
Jaliya Davis continued Monday as she was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the fifth consecutive week. Davis swept the award in the month of January and has claimed each honor since returning from injury on New Year's Day.
Â
Davis led the Jayhawks with 29 points and a career-high nine rebounds in KU's nationally televised matchup at No. 12 TCU on Thursday night. She hit 11-of-19 field goal attempts and 7-of-8 free throws as she finished one point shy of tying her career high, while also scoring the most points by a freshman against a Top 25 opponent this season. Davis followed that performance with 14 points and six rebounds Sunday against Colorado while being limited to 26 minutes due to foul trouble. The TCU game marked Davis's ninth 20-point game of the season and her eighth in 10 conference games.

Brandon Schneider's tenure, Davis averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 53.6 percent (15-28) from the field. The Overland Park, Kansas, native hit 13-of-15 free throws (86.7 percent) for the week and added three assists, one steal and one blocked shot. Davis is the No. 2 leading scorer in the Big 12 during league play, averaging 21.9 points per game.
Â
Davis remains in exclusive company as the third player in conference history to earn the Big 12 Freshman of the Week five consecutive times. She joins Joyner Holmes of Texas, who won five-straight awards in January-February 2007 and Ayoka Lee of Kansas State, who claimed the honor six-straight times in January-February 2020.
Â
As the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, Davis is included as a member of the Big 12 Women's Basketball Starting Five, which is voted on by a media panel to recognize strong performances from across the conference. In addition to five Freshman of the Week honors, Davis also earned a spot on the Big 12 Starting Five on Nov. 10.
