LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas forward
Jaliya Davis extended her streak of consecutive Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards to eight as she was named the Co-Freshman of the Week along with Olivia Hamlin of BYU on Monday.
Â
Davis extended her streak despite Kansas playing just once last week. She scored 16 points and finished one rebound shy of her second double-double as she totaled nine boards in KU's 75-68 victory at Kansas State on Saturday evening. Davis was 5-7 from the field and 6-8 from the free throw line as she helped Kansas earn its first win over KSU at Bramlage Coliseum since 2019 and complete its first regular season sweep over the Wildcats since 2013.
Â
A five-star prospect and McDonald's All-American entering college, Davis has been dominant in her freshman season with the Jayhawks. With eight consecutive Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors, she extends her own conference record and ties the record for longest consecutive streak in a Power Conference. She matches the previous best of eight, held by Taniya Latson of Florida State (2022-23) and Tracy Connor of Wake Forest (1992-93) in the ACC. With eight total Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors, Davis is tied with Darianna Littlepage-Buggs of Baylor for third-most in conference history behind Ayoka Lee of Kansas State (12) and Delaney Gibb of BYU (10).

The Overland Park, Kansas, native and product of Blue Valley North high school missed 10 games earlier in the season due to injury but has since returned to average 22.0 points per game in Big 12 play. She's the No. 2 leading scorer in the Big 12 during league play and she leads the conference in field goal shooting 63.7 percent (121-190) in conference games. Davis has scored at least 10 points in all 18 games she's appeared, and she's second on the team in rebounding with 6.2 per game for the year.
Â
As the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, Davis is included as a member of the Big 12 Women's Basketball Starting Five, which is voted on by a media panel to recognize strong performances from across the conference. In addition to eight Freshman of the Week honors, Davis also earned a spot on the Big 12 Starting Five on Nov. 10.
Â
Kansas (17-11, 7-9 Big 12) closes out the regular season with its final two Big 12 Conference matchups this week.
