LAWRENCE, Kan. – The historic regular season of Kansas forward
Jaliya Davis concluded with her receiving a record-setting ninth consecutive Big 12 Freshman of the Week award, which was announced by the conference office on Monday.
Â
Davis won the award during every week she played during conference play. She missed the Jayhawks' conference opener, then returned to the lineup against West Virginia on Jan. 1, and swept the award in January, February and now the first week of March. Davis is averaging 21.0 points per game for the year, a number that was even higher at 21.5 points per game during Big 12 play. She finished as the No. 2 scorer in the conference and led the Big 12 by shooting 63.6 percent (136-214) from the field in league play.
Â
In the final week of the regular season, Davis averaged 18.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, helping Kansas to a 1-1 record, which included a 68-59 victory over No. 20 Texas Tech on Senior Night. She recorded her second career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Texas Tech, then went for 24 points on the road at Oklahoma State on Saturday. Davis notched her 13th game this season scoring 20+ points, which tied for seventh in Kansas history for a single season and tied for fifth in Big 12 history by a freshman. She has scored in double figures in all 20 games she's appeared and ranks second on the team in rebounding with 6.3 per game for the year.
Â
A five-star prospect and McDonald's All-American from Blue Valley North High School, Davis has been dominant as a freshman. She set the Big 12 record for most consecutive Freshman of the Week awards at seven, then added two more awards to her total and set a new record for the longest streak in a Power Conference at nine. With nine total Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards, Davis ends her season with the third-most in conference history, trailing only Ayoka Lee of Kansas State, who had 12 in 2019-20, and Delaney Gibb of BYU, who had 10 last season.
Â
As the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, Davis is included as a member of the Big 12 Women's Basketball Starting Five, which is voted on by a media panel to recognize strong performances from across the conference. In addition to her nine Freshman of the Week honors, Davis also earned a spot on the Big 12 Starting Five on Nov. 10.
Â
Kansas (18-12) enters the postseason as the No. 11 seed in the 2026 Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri. The Jayhawks will face No. 14 seed UCF in the first round of the tournament at 8 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 4, at the T-Mobile Center.
