BOSTON, Mass. – Kansas junior distance runner Sharon Lokedi set a school record in the 5,000-meter run at the BU Season Opener in Boston, Massachusetts. Lokedi’s time beat her own school record set two seasons ago by 19 seconds.
Â
Lokedi clocked in with a time of 15:39.05, besting her previous school record of 15:57.95 set at the Iowa State Classic in 2016. The record-breaking time was good for a fourth-place finish in the event, finishing behind Missouri’s Karissa Schweizer (15:17.31) and New Mexico’s Ednah Kurgat (15:19.03) and Weini Kelati (15:37.03).
Â
Senior Courtney Coppinger also competed in the 5,000 meters at the BU Season Opener, but did not finish the race.
Â
While Lokedi and Coppinger were running in Boston, the rest of the Kansas men’s and women’s track & field team opened the indoor season with a home meet, the Bob Timmons Challenge at Anschutz Sports Pavilion in Lawrence, Kansas.
