LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawks are back in action for the second game of a four-game home stand in December on Wednesday, Dec. 11, as the Jayhawks host Kansas City in its penultimate non-conference game of the regular season.
Tipoff from Allen Fieldhouse is set for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Josh Klingler (play-by-play) and Brenda VanLengen (analyst) on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Jayhawk Radio Network from Learfield, with Steven Davis and David Lawrence calling the action.
Kansas has won four-straight games, most recently defeating Wichita State, 70-60, on Dec. 5, to improve to 8-1 on the year. The Jayhawks previously went 3-0 at the Paradise Jam on Nov. 28-30, with victories over Pittsburgh (59-53), Northern Iowa (76-73) and Auburn (61-60) to claim the tournament title.
S'Mya Nichols continues to lead the Jayhawks and ranks No. 2 in the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 21.1 points per game for the year. Nichols had 19 points in KU's win over Wichita State, snapping a streak of five-straight games of scoring more than 20 points.
Regan Williams recorded her first career double-double against Wichita State, setting new career highs with 13 points and 11 rebounds. For her performance, Williams was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Jayhawk to earn a conference weekly honor this season.
Kansas City is 3-7 on the year following defeats last week at Sacramento State (74-57) and at home against Idaho State (67-50) in the Summit League-Big Sky Challenge. The Roos and Jayhawks have one common opponent this season in Lindenwood, who KU defeated 56-43 on Nov. 6 and KC fell to 67-63 on Nov. 22.
Kansas and Kansas City have met 22 times all-time in women's basketball, dating back to the first meeting in 1988. Kansas leads the all-time series 18-4, including wins in three straight and nine of the last 10 matchups. The two teams last played on Nov. 18, 2023, at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri, with Kansas claiming a 70-61 victory.
A Preseason All-Big 12 selection, Nichols has scored at least 16 points in each game this season, most recently scoring 19 points in 19 minutes during KU's win over Wichita State. Nichols is one of the most prolific free throw shooters in the country, shooting 78.8 percent (76-99) from the stripe this season. She leads the Big 12 and ranks No. 2 nationally with 76 made free throws, and she's attempted more free throws than any other player in the country.
Elle Evans hit three three-pointers and scored 15 points against Wichita State, marking her sixth time scoring in double figures in the past seven games. Evans has hit multiple three-pointers in each of the last six games, and she's shooting 37.5 percent (21-56) from long range this season.
Kansas has won 13-consecutive games at Allen Fieldhouse, which ranks No. 11 among active streaks in the country. Since the start of last season, KU has a home record of 18-1 and the Jayhawks have won 26 of their last 27 home games dating back to late in the 2022-23 season.
