
Kansas Signee Carla Osma to Compete for Spain in EuroBasket 2024

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Incoming Kansas freshman Carla Osma has been selected to represent her home country of Spain in the upcoming FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket. The tournament will take place in Matosinhos, Portugal from August 3-11.
Osma – a 6-1 guard from Madrid, Spain – was one of three freshmen to sign with Kansas in November 2023. She has previously competed for her national team in the FIBA Women's European U16 Championship in 2022 and U18 Championship in 2023. She averaged 10.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in helping Spain to a runner-up finish in the U16 Championship
Last year in the U18 Championship, Osma played alongside current Jayhawk Laia Conesa and averaged 4.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game as Spain took third in that event. In addition to her international competition, Osma was a member of a club team that won first place at the Madrid Championship in 2022 and had runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2023.
A total of 16 teams will compete for the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket title and they have been divided into four groups of four for the group phase. Osma and the Spain team is in Group A, where they will compete with Latvia, Slovenia and Turkey. The group phase will take place across the opening three days of the tournament, with teams seeded for the Round of 16 stage base on final group position. The competition will continue with bracket play until the final on August 11.
Spain will first meet Slovenia on Saturday, August 3, at 2:30 p.m. CT, with following matchups against Turkey on August 4 at 9:30 a.m. and Latvia on August 5 at 2:30 p.m. All games of the EuroBasket event will be streamed on FIBA's YouTube channel.
