LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawks are headed to Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Saturday, Jan. 4, for the first of two meetings this season against Oklahoma State.
Tipoff from Gallagher-Iba Arena is set for 2 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on ESPN+ with Adam Hildebrandt (play-by-play) and Casey Kendrick (analyst) on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Jayhawk Radio Network from Learfield, with Steven Davis calling the action.
The Jayhawks are 10-3 on the year and 0-2 in conference play after dropping a 78-64 contest at Iowa State on New Year's Day. The Jayhawks finished non-conference play with a 10-1 record, defeating Penn State 68-65 on Dec. 15 in Lawrence to go 7-0 at home prior to the start of league play.
S'Mya Nichols scored a team-high 22 points at Iowa State, marking the third-straight game in which she has scored 20 or more points. Nichols has now topped the 20-point mark nine times in 13 games, matching the number of 20-point games she had in 33 games as a freshman.
Nichols, a Preseason All-Big 12 selection, is the No. 2 leading scorer in the Big 12 and No. 10 nationally, averaging 21.5 points per game for the season. She is shooting 45.2 percent (75-166) from the field and 38.9 percent (14-36) from three-point range, while also getting to the free throw line frequently. Through 13 games, Nichols leads the country in both free throws made (115) and attempted (141), and she's ranked No. 10 in the Big 12 by shooting 81.6 percent from the line.
Elle Evans scored 12 points at Iowa State for her fifth-straight game scoring in double figures and 10th in the past 11 games. Evans is KU's No. 2 leading scorer, averaging 13.2 points per game, while leading the Jayhawks with 28 made three-pointers.
Regan Williams added six points and four rebounds at Iowa State. Named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Dec. 9, Williams is KU's third-leading scorer at 7.0 points per game and leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game.
Nadira Eltayeb finished with five points and five rebounds in 13 minutes of action off the bench at ISU. She has grabbed at least five rebounds in four of the past five games and nine times this season. Eltayeb ranks No. 2 on the team with 4.8 per game for the year.
After playing a home-and-home series in each season since 2011-12, Kansas and Oklahoma State met just once last season, with the Jayhawks claiming a 70-64 victory in Lawrence on Jan. 13, 2024. Kansas has won five straight against the Cowgirls, including each of their last two trips to Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Saturday's matchup will be the 82nd all-time meeting between Kansas and Oklahoma State in a series dating back to 1976. OSU holds a slim, 41-40 all-time advantage in the series, including an 18-15 edge in games played in Stillwater.
Oklahoma State is 12-1 on the year and 2-0 in league play after defeating Baylor 84-61 on Wednesday in Waco. OSU leads the Big 12 and ranks No. 9 nationally in scoring, averaging 87.4 points per game, with three players averaging in double figures in Micah Gray (16.8 ppg), Anna Gret Asi (13.8) and Stailee Heard (13.5). Jacie Hoyt is in her third season as the head coach at OSU after five years at Kansas City.
