No. 11 Kansas Welcomes Arizona State for Midweek Contest Wednesday

LAWRENCE, Kan. — No. 11/12 Kansas (10-3, 1-1 Big 12) returns home to host Big 12 foe Arizona State (10-3, 1-1 Big 12) on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m. CT. The game from Allen Fieldhouse will be televised on ESPN2 with Jon Sciambi and Jay Williams calling the action.

Kansas is coming off a 99-48 win at UCF on Jan. 5. The 51-point margin is the highest road win margin in Big 12 history and the second-largest victory on the road in program history behind Dec. 28, 1990 at Hawaii Loa (+53). The 51-point margin is the largest in school history against a Division I opponent.

Arizona State has won two of its last three games after its 81-61 win against Colorado on Jan. 4. Arizona State leads the all-time series with Kansas, 6-5, and the Sun Devils have won the last two meetings.

Also, against UCF on Jan. 5, Kansas pulled down a season-high 63 rebounds, the most in a game by KU since March 24, 2002 against Oregon (63) and the most ever in a Big 12 contest. The Kansas bench combined to score 42 points, which is the most bench points in a conference game since March 5, 2016 vs. Iowa State (46) and the most in a conference game on the road since Feb. 1, 2011 at Texas Tech (42). Kansas' 99 points in a Big 12 game on the road were its second most in a contest that ended in regulation (102 at Texas on Jan. 10, 1998) and the Jayhawks outscored UCF 62-10 in the paint.

The Kansas-Arizona State game will be KU's TEAM Impact contest. Team IMPACT is a national nonprofit organization that connects children with serious illnesses or disabilities to college sports teams. Six KU teams, including men's basketball, participate in TEAM Impact and will be recognized during the game.

KU is No. 10 in the NET report by the NCAA through games of Jan. 6. The No. 10 rank is third in the Big 12 behind No. 4 Houston and No. 6 Iowa State.

Kansas averages 79.3 points per game and has a +15.0 scoring margin. KU pulls down 39.7 rebounds per contest with a +7.0 rebound margin. Kansas is making 49.2% from the field, which is third in the Big 12 and 28th nationally, including 35.2% from three-point range. KU ranks second in the Big 12 and eighth nationally in assists average at 19.0. KU also averages 6.8 steals and 5.1 blocked shots per game.

Coming off his fourth 20-point game of the season with 27 points at UCF (1/5), graduate C Hunter Dickinson leads Kansas in scoring at 16.0 ppg and rebounding at 10.3 rpg. A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week, Dickinson leads the Big 12 in double-doubles (7), which is 11th nationally, and is second in rebounds per game (10.3), which is 14th nationally. Dickinson also leads KU with 20 blocked shots and he is second on the team with 18 steals.

Senior G Zeke Mayo has scored 25-plus points in three of his last four games. A two-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Mayo is averaging 14.0 points per game and has made a team-high 26 threes. He is second on the team with 46 assists and pulls down 4.1 rebounds per contest.

Graduate G Dajuan Harris Jr. is a four-year starter who is averaging 10.4 points and he is second in the Big 12 in assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.55, which is 11th nationally, and is second in assists per game at 5.5, which is 40th nationally.

Senior F KJ Adams is a starter who is scoring 8.7 points per game. Adams has 28 assists and 14 blocked shots. Junior G AJ Storr has started four games and he is scoring 7.5 points per contest. Storr has made 11 threes this season. Junior G Rylan Griffen is tied for second on the team with 17 threes made after his 4-for-4 effort at UCF (1/5). Griffen is averaging 7.2 ppg and has started seven games this season.

Freshman F Flory Bidunga recorded a career-high six blocked shots at UCF (1/5), becoming the first Jayhawk freshman since Nick Collison (2000) with at least six blocks in a game on the road. His 16 blocked shots are second on the team and he is also second on the team with a 5.4 rebound average. Bidunga averages 6.7 points per game and is shooting 81.6 percent (40-for-49) from the field.

Senior G David Coit has three starts and he is also second on the team with 17 threes made. Coit averages 5.4 points per game. Other KU regulars include graduate G Shakeel Moore (2.5 ppg), redshirt-junior F Zach Clemence (1.4 ppg) and freshman G Rakease Passmore (1.2 ppg). Moore started his first game at KU at UCF (1/5).

Cincinnati leads the overall series with Kansas, 5-4, but Kansas has won three of the last four meetings in a series that dates back to 1949. The Bearcats won the last meeting, 72-52, in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Big 12 Championship in Kansas City, Missouri.
