LAWRENCE, Kan. – Exhibition play commences on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Allen Fieldhouse as the Kansas Jayhawks host Fort Hays State in the lone exhibition matchup for both programs.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Josh Klingler (play-by-play) and
Wayne Simien (analyst) on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Jayhawk Radio Network from Learfield, with Steven Davis and David Lawrence calling the action.

Kansas was picked sixth in the preseason Big 12 coaches poll. KU returns each of its top six scorers and 92.5 percent of the overall scoring from last season.

The Jayhawks are led by junior guard
S'Mya Nichols, a standout point guard who has performed at a record-setting pace in her first two years at KU. Nichols has started all 63 games in her Kansas career, scoring 1,065 points, an average of 16.9 per game, and she's the second-fastest player in program history to score 1,000 career points, doing so in just 58 games.

KU has two other All-Big 12 returners in senior
Elle Evans and sophomore
Regan Williams. Evans earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention for her first season at Kansas, while Williams was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Evans was second on the team in scoring last season with 14.4 points per game, while Williams was No. 3 on the team in scoring (9.0) while leading the Jayhawks with 4.9 rebounds per contest.

Nichols was named to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Preseason Watch List on Oct. 27. The Overland Park native is a two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection, and she ranked fifth in the Big 12 in scoring with 18.6 points per game. Nichols shattered KU's school record with 218 made free throws last season, a mark that ranks fifth in Big 12 history.

Evans also earned preseason recognition as one of 20 players nominated for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year watch list. Known for her quick release and accurate shooting, Evans made 69 three-pointers last season, which tied for second in school history for a single season.

In addition to Nichols, Evans and Williams, Kansas returners include
Laia Conesa,
Brittany Harshaw,
Sania Copeland and
Nadira Eltayeb. All seven players returning started at least five games last season.

Kansas welcomes its highest-ranked recruiting class in recent memory, with the high school class of 2025 finishing ranked No. 7 in the country by ESPNW. The group is led by five-star standouts
Jaliya Davis and
Keeley Parks but has depth with four-star prospects
Libby Fandel and three-star
Tatyonna Brown.

Head coach
Brandon Schneider is in his 11th season at Kansas and his 28th overall as a collegiate head coach. Schneider has led the Jayhawks to a winning record five times in the past six seasons, with two NCAA Tournament appearances (2022, 2024) and the 2023 WNIT Championship.

Wednesday's exhibition will be the first preseason meeting between Kansas and Fort Hays State since Oct. 28, 2018, when the Jayhawks defeated the Tigers 90-83 in overtime. FHSU was 28-5 last season, recording the program's 14th consecutive 20-win season, and the Tigers were picked first in the MIAA preseason coaches poll.
