LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas swimming and diving swept all three Big 12 women's weekly awards, as junior Shiyun Lai was named Big 12 Women's Diver of the Week, senior Lydia Lafferty earned Big 12 Women's Swimmer of the Week, and freshman Ivy Solt was selected Big 12 Women's Newcomer of the Week. It is the first time Kansas has claimed all three awards in the same week since October 27th, 2021.
"Our team is so happy for Lydia, Ivy and Shiyun," head coach Clark Campbell said. "They had a strong meet along with the majority of the team. We are looking forward to taking that momentum into our mid-season championship."
With this week's honors, Lai picks up her second Big 12 diving award of the season and the tenth of her Kansas career. Lafferty earns her first career weekly conference honor and is the first Jayhawk to win Swimmer of the Week since Lezli Sisung on January 25th, 2023. Solt becomes the second Kansas freshman this season, joining Sammy Cummins, to receive the league's newcomer award.
Lai continued her strong season on the boards in last week's dual meet against Nebraska, winning her third event title of the year with a first-place score of 359.78 in the 3-meter dive. She also added a runner-up finish in the 1-meter event with 309.38 points.
Lafferty broke multiple records against the Huskers, clocking 53.19 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly to set a new Kansas program record and surpass her previous personal best. She also posted a personal best and Devaney Center pool record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.19 seconds.
Competing in her third collegiate meet, Solt earned runner-up finishes in both the 1650-yard freestyle at 16:54.52 and the 500-yard freestyle at 4:53.02. She also delivered a 50.83 second split on the 400-yard freestyle relay to help the Jayhawks place third. Solt now has eight top three finishes on the season.
