LAWRENCE, KAN. - The Kansas Jayhawks got a runner-up finish from
Mason Meinershagen in pole vault and had three men score points in the decathlon to highlight day two of the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship Friday at Rock Chalk Park.
Through two days of competition, the Jayhawks sit seventh in the men's team standings with 21 points and eighth in the women's standings with 20.33 points.Â
Meinershagen took second in pole vault after clearing 4.31 meters. She cleared her opening height of 4.06 meters on her first try before getting 4.21 on her third and final attempt. From there, Meinershagen got 4.31 on her second attempt before going out at 4.41, which was cleared by Molly Haywood of Baylor. Kansas also got a seventh-place finish in the event from Madi Snody, who cleared 4.21 for a new personal best.
Ebba Cronholm placed third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:00.55, establishing a new personal best while also adding to the Jayhawks' team total. Madeleine Fey added points as well as she placed fifth in shot put with a personal best throw of 16.11 meters.Â
The Jayhawks had a trio of podium finishes in the decathlon that collected the first 13 points for the men's team. Tayton Klein finished with the highest KU point total of 7,629, a new personal best for the junior, en route to a third place finish. Klein won the long jump, finished third in the 100 meter dash and added two fourth places in javelin and the 400 meter dash to earn the bronze medal.
Closely behind in fourth was last year's Big 12 decathlon champion Alexander Jung with 7,532 points. The senior placed second in discus and shot put, fourth in the 110 meter hurdles and fifth in javelin. Rounding out the group was Conor Dunback, who also posted a personal best with 7,231 points that included winning the last two events, javelin and the 1500 meter run.
Contributing four more points to the KU total was Jacob Cookinham with a fifth place finish in shot put. The lone Jayhawk to qualify for finals, Cookinham set a new personal best with a toss of 19.02 meters on his last throw in prelims, before recording an even better launch of 19.59 meters on his final throw for a top-5 finish.
George Jackson added a fifth-place finish in long jump with a jump of 7.16 meters.Â
In the 800 meter run, TJ Robinson found his way to finals with a personal best time of 1:48.31 while
Emmaculate Jemutai followed on the women's side with the automatic qualifying spot as she crossed the finish line at 2:03.73 to win the first heat.
With the second best prelims mark, Pearl Awanya also earned an automatic qualification in the 400 meter dash as her time of 52.84 won the first heat.Â
The 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship will conclude on Saturday, beginning with field events at 2 p.m. CT. Finals in running events will follow, with a start time of 5:05 p.m. CT. Live results for the final day can be found at this
