KU’s Peterson Named to Two Midseason Watch Lists by the USBWA

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman guard Darryn Peterson has been named to two midseason watch lists by the U.S. Basketball Writers of America (USBWA), the organization announced Jan. 15.
Peterson is one of 25 named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch Midseason List for the nation's outstanding player and one of 15 named to the midseason watch list for the Wayman Tisdale Award, which honors the nation's top freshman.
Peterson is vying to become the second Kansas men's basketball player to earn the Oscar Robertson Trophy, joining Frank Mason III in 2017.
On most every preseason All-America team and preseason national player of watch list, Peterson is Kansas' leading scorer at 21.8 points per game. Peterson scored a career-high 32 points in Kansas' 104-100 overtime win against TCU on Jan. 6, followed by a 23-point effort at West Virginia on Jan. 10. For his efforts, Peterson was named to the Big 12 Starting Five for the second time this season, and he was named Dick Vitale's Diaper Dandy of the Week.
Peterson, from Canton, Ohio, has made 24 three-pointers in eight games played this season, and has scored 20 or more points in five contests. He also averages 4.8 rebounds per game.
Kansas (12-5, 2-2) concludes its two-game home stand when it plays host to Baylor (11-5, 1-3) on Friday, Jan. 16. Tip from Allen Fieldhouse will be at 7 p.m. (Central) and the game will be televised on FOX.
