LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas' Boden Groen was named First Team Academic All-America as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday. The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Groen, from Santa Ana, California, earns First Team Academic All-America honors with a 4.0 GPA in Business Administration. Groen becomes the 16th Jayhawk in program history to earn the Academic All-America distinction, including Kansas' first, First Team All-American since Russell Brorsen in 2007.
Kansas has now had six Academic All-Americans over the last four years, joining Jared Casey (2024), Mason Fairchild (2023), Jalon Daniels (2022), Sam Burt (2022) and Earl Bostick Jr. (2022). Groen is one of five individuals from the Big 12 Conference to be named to the Academic All-America teams.
Groen played in all 12 games in 2025 at Kansas, recording 36 receptions for 450 yards and five touchdowns on the season. Groen's 36 receptions were the fifth most in single season history by a Kansas tight end, while his five receiving touchdowns led the team. Groen transferred to Kansas after three seasons at Rice and one season at Saddleback College.
To qualify for Academic All-America consideration this year, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, along with having at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Nominated student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the games. Each student-athlete nominated has their candidacy evaluated by a sub-committee with sport expertise to ensure that only the top student-athletes are elevated to the national voting ballot.
