
Lai Earns First in 1-Meter Dive at Day 2 of Big 12 Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kansas wrapped up Day 2 of the Big 12 Championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with a victory from junior Shiyun Lai on the 1-meter dive and five personal-best swims, landing Kansas in seventh with 243 points. .
We had another solid day, head coach Clark Campbell said. Our 500 freestyle group performed very well, and Shiyun's victory on the 1-meter dive highlighted the evening. Tomorrow will be another strong day for us.
Kansas opened the morning with a strong showing in the 500-yard freestyle preliminaries. Sophomore Gabi Dyer posted a lifetime-best 4:45.52 to qualify first for the A final. Freshman Ivy Solt followed at 4:49.72 to advance to the A final, while sophomore Tait Haag recorded a personal-best 4:54.54 to earn a spot in the C final.
In the 200-yard individual medley, senior Hailey Farrell touched in 2:02.32 to qualify for the C final.
Sophomores Sophie Wallace (23.34) and Ella Hansen (23.36), along with junior Ryan Jonston (23.71), each notched personal-best times in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries.
In finals action, Solt placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:49.36, while Dyer finished eighth (4:49.50). Haag took 19th overall. Farrell placed 22nd in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:03.28.
On the boards, Lai scored Kansas' first event win of the meet, totaling 338.70 points to capture the 1-meter title. Senior Lize Lukas van Leeuwen finished 18th (237.15).
Day three of the Big 12 Championship begins Thursday with preliminaries at 9 a.m. CT and finals at 5 p.m. CT. Diving preliminaries start at 11:30 a.m. CT, with finals held in conjunction with swimming events.
