"For something that is affecting 1-in-31 kids in the United States, there are still lots of questions that need to be researched and explored," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "Everyone knows someone with autism or will know someone with autism. Our goal with our Autism Awareness Game is to be a small piece in bringing more awareness and more attention to the number of people and families impacted by this disorder. We hope you can join us at the ballpark for a great night."
Kansas will be wearing special uniforms and hats that feature a design to help raise awareness for autism. Thursday's game will feature a sensory-inclusive environment for fans attending. Stadium volume will be silenced at 5:50 p.m. and will gradually increase by inning throughout the game.
World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated on April 2 every year. Information about autism and how it affects children and adults will be shared during the game, and resources will be available at the marketing table. Fans coming to the game will have an opportunity to receive an exclusive KU autism awareness t-shirt, while supplies last.
Kansas (16-9, 4-2 Big 12) has won six of its last seven games. The Jayhawks are heading to Cincinnati this weekend for a Big 12 series against the Bearcats that begins on Friday.
