LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 34 Kansas will travel to the state of Arizona for a pair of ranked matches against No. 16 Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. CT, and No. 39 Arizona in Tuscon, Arizona on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m. CT.Â
Kansas comes into the match with a 9-7 record and 5-2 mark in Big 12 play after defeating No. 40 Houston, 4-3, on March 20 and No. 19 UCF, 4-1, on March 22. The Jayhawks are 5-3 against ranked opponents this season, and have won three out of their last four against ranked foes. Arizona State comes into the match with a 13-4 record and sits at 5-2 in Big 12 play. Arizona currently has a record of 13-8 and has a 4-3 mark in conference play.
The Jayhawks recently moved up in this weeks' team rankings, jumping from No. 48 to No. 34. The No. 34 ranking is Kansas' highest since Kansas was No. 30 last season on February 20. The Jayhawks have two players ranked in doubles and singles, with Kyoka Kubo ranked at No. 53 in singles with a 8-4 record this season. Kubo joins Heike Janse van Vuuren in the doubles rankings, as they are ranked No. 47. The pair is 4-1 on the season.Â
Van Vuuren is currently 9-5 in singles play and she has won seven of her last nine matches. Meg McCarty is 7-3 in doubles play with her partner van Vuuren, and is currently 7-4 in singles play this season. Kubo has joined Meriem Ben Ezzedine in doubles play and has played to a 4-2 record as a pair.
