The victory marked the fourth consecutive win for Kansas and made the Jayhawks 10-4 overall this season. The walk-off win was the first of the season for the Jayhawks.
Â
Mathis Nayral received the start and gave up three earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched. He recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in the team's win. Riane Ritter did not allow an earned run and Toby Scheidt had a scoreless relief outing. Boede Rahe earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kansas (10-4) got on the board first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Dylan Schlotterback was the first Jayhawk to score after he stole third base and advanced home on an error. The second run of the inning came on a Brady Ballinger RBI double to give Kansas a 2-0 lead at the end of two innings.
• St. Thomas (2-12) cut the lead in half with an RBI double by Matthew Maulik in the top of the third.
• The Tommies were able to grab a lead with a four-run fifth inning. Three RBI singles and a fielding error pushed St. Thomas to a 5-2 advantage.
• That became a 7-2 edge in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Owen Bond.
• The Jayhawks cut into the deficit with three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Kansas loaded the bases with one out in the inning. Tyson LeBlanc hit a ground-rule double to right field to bring in two runs. Tyson Owens followed with an RBI groundout to make it a 7-5 ballgame.
• In the eighth, Kansas tied up the game with two solo home runs to right field. Jordan Bach hit a solo blast and two batters later Tyson LeBlanc sent a solo homer to the opposite field. That tied the game at 7-7.
• St. Thomas bounced back by scoring a run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly.
• The Jayhawks were not deterred trailing by a run with only three outs left. With one out in the inning, Mungarrieta hit a no-doubter to right field to walk it off for the Jayhawks.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"I loved how we played early. We actually barreled a bunch of balls. We were two times through the batting order and I think we had one punch out. We had a great approach at the plate and then it got away from us a little bit in the fifth and sixth. The first pitch of the fifth is a groundout, so we're one out after one pitch, and then it turns into four runs. But, then we had the three-spot in the sixth and the two-spot in the eighth. Then again, they punch back in the ninth and take the lead. The guys came back in just fired up for the opportunity to tie it and walk it off. Loved the effort, loved the attitude and love how these guys love winning." – Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald
Â
"My mindset was just to drive the ball and get a quality at-bat. I knew it was gone right away. The wind was blowing a little to right field, so I just thought that I'm going to hit a line drive to right field and then see what happens. That's what I was trying to do and the ball left the park." – Augusto Mungarrietta
Â
"I'm just happy that we got that win. We came back in the eighth inning and then they scored a run. It was a dog fight. It's awesome to get the win. We're like a family here. We're all brothers." – Augusto Mungarrieta
Â
• Kansas has won four consecutive games and is now 10-4 overall this season.
• Kansas claimed its first walk-off win of the season.
• Kansas had a season-high eight extra base hits. The five doubles and three home runs were both season highs.
• Mungarrieta hit his third home run of the year.
• Bach hit his fourth home run of the season and has homered in back-to-back games. He finished 3-for-4 with a double, home run, three runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Bach has a team-high seven multi-hit games this season.
• LeBlanc hit his third home run of the season.
• Scheidt has not allowed a run in seven relief appearances this season.
