LAWRENCE, Kan. – Brandon Schneider has announced that Kansas natives
Jerise Freeman and
Jayci Stone have joined the Kansas women's basketball coaching staff. Freeman is KU's new assistant head coach, while Stone joins the staff as an assistant coach.
Â
In addition to returning to their home state, both come to Lawrence with power conference coaching experience along with previous coaching ties in the Big 12 Conference.
Â
"Jerise and Jayci both have extensive experience both in college basketball and the Big 12 Conference," Schneider said. "They are proven court coaches as it relates to teaching the game and developing players. Their strong, national recruiting ties will greatly benefit us as we continue to improve and advance our program."
Â
Freeman comes to Lawrence from Oregon, where she spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Ducks. Kansas will be the fourth power conference coaching opportunity for Freeman, who previously spent three seasons at Utah and four at Oklahoma State. The Wichita, Kansas, native comes to KU with 18 years of collegiate coaching experience, which also includes stops at Eastern Washington, Newman, Missouri State, Butler CC and Pittsburg State.
Â
"I'm excited to be back in my home state of Kansas and it feels right," Freeman said. "I'm honored and ready for the opportunity to work with this group of great coaches and players. I can't wait to see what we build. The best is yet to come. Rock Chalk!"
Â
Stone joins the Jayhawks from Arkansas, where she was the director of student-athlete development for three seasons. She has previous Big 12 experience from her time as an assistant coach at Kansas State and director of operations at TCU. A native of Goodland, Kansas, Stone finished her playing career and started coaching at Alaska-Anchorage, before making other coaching stops at Frank Phillips College, Hutchinson CC, Southern Utah and Stephen F. Austin.
Â
"My Rock Chalk roots have brought so much joy to my life, and I can't wait to share that enthusiasm with my family in Lawrence," Stone said. "I'm humbled to get to work in such a basketball rich environment. Coach Schneider and his staff laid the blueprint for success, and I can't be more grateful to continue that journey with them."
Â
Freeman and Stone join Schneider returning staff members
Brock McGinnis and
Patrick Schrater on the Jayhawks' coaching staff for the 2026-27 season. McGinnis serves as KU's associate head coach, while Schrater is assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Â
"Jerise and Jayci will be incredible mentors for our young women both on and off the court and we are excited to bring them back to their home state," Schneider added.
