LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas volleyball will return to historic Allen Fieldhouse to host a pair of Big 12 matchups this season on Sunday, Oct. 18 against Arizona State and Friday, Oct. 30 against Kansas State.
"Being able to play two great opponents in Allen is something we're extremely excited and thankful for," Kansas head coach
Matt Ulmer said. "This is a great opportunity for more Jayhawk fans to watch their team play live at home. We are hopeful that the students and community will make these two matches, two of the best volleyball experiences in the country."
With its pair of home matches this season, Kansas will return to Allen Fieldhouse for just the second time since 2013, when the Jayhawks hosted one regular season match and the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament there. In the postseason, KU defeated Wichita State and Creighton to advance to the regional semifinals. The Jayhawks also played three games at Allen Fieldhouse in 2012 with a three-set win over Saint Louis in the regular season before finishing 1-1 in the NCAA Tournament.
Kansas volleyball played its home matches at Allen Fieldhouse from 1975-98 before moving into the Horejsi Family Athletics Center in 1999. It was later renovated and unveiled as the new state-of-the-art Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena on Sept. 10, 2019 and serves as the primary home for the Jayhawks. Prior to moving, the attendance record in Allen Fieldhouse was 14,800 for a match against Missouri on Oct. 18, 1996. The match vs. Kansas State last season in Allen Fieldhouse had a record attendance of 7,550 fans, the largest crowd since 2012 against Wichita State in the NCAA Tournament.
