LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Jayhawks (4-3) closed out the Kansas Invitational with a sweep of Tulsa (8-1) on Sunday afternoon, winning the sets 25-16, 25-22 and 25-18 in front of a packed house at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.

Freshman outside hitter Taylor Stanley paced the Jayhawks with a match-high 20 kills on .531 hitting percentage to go with two aces and three blocks. Grace Nelson added eight kills, and Reese Ptacek chipped in seven kills and a team-high four blocks. Logan Bell recorded six kills and a team-high 10 digs, while Olivia Hasbrook also finished with 10 digs. Sophomore setter Reese Messer ran the KU offense with 34 assists.

The Jayhawk offense set the tone early in the first set. Stanley recorded a kill off the block for the 100th of her career to make it 5-3, and Nelson found the gap off a Messer assist to push the lead to 9-4. Ptacek then took over at the service line, sparking a 5-0 run that made it 10-5. Bell added a flying back-row attack to extend the advantage to 13-5 and force a Tulsa timeout. Tulsa trimmed the deficit briefly before KU took a 15-9 lead into the media timeout. Kansas kept rolling out of the break as Ptacek's kill made it 16-9, and Bell's ace fueled a 4-0 run that built a 20-13 cushion. A Tulsa service error closed out the set, 25-16.

Tulsa came out with more fight in the second set, grabbing a 2-1 lead before Nelson's ace put Kansas back in front, 4-2. The set was tied 4-4 before a Ptacek kill rebuilt the KU lead at 7-5. The two sides traded points from there until a Bell kill gave the Jayhawks a 15-12 edge at the halfway point.

Tulsa answered with a 3-0 run to force a Kansas timeout and briefly trail 16-15, and the set was tied again at 19-19. Bell's net play put KU back on top 21-20, but the teams knotted the score twice more, at 21-21 and 22-22, before Kansas closed the set on a 3-0 run capped by a Stanley kill for the 25-22 win.

The third set opened much like the first. Bell's point made it 1-0, and a big block from Stanley and Ptacek pushed the lead to 3-0. Aisha Aiono found the gap in the middle of the court to stretch the advantage to 9-5, and Stanley's 18th kill of the match made it 12-7. Kansas led 15-9 at the midway point of the set. Tulsa put together a rally, but a kill from Nelson steadied Kansas at 16-11, and an ace from Hasbrook made it 20-14 and forced a Tulsa timeout. Ptacek's overhand kill gave Kansas match point at 24-16, and a Tulsa attack error sealed the 25-18 set and the sweep.

Kansas travels to Wichita State on Tuesday for a rematch against the Shockers at 6 p.m. CT before returning home to host the Jayhawk Classic on Sept. 18-20.
