Kansas Cross Country Prepared for Gans Creek Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas cross country will compete at the Gans Creek Classic for its second meet of the season on Friday, Sep. 25, at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, MO.Â
The Jayhawks are scheduled to compete in the Gold Invitational, with the women's 6K race scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and the men's 8K race set for 8:45 a.m.Â
The race will mark the second of three regular season races for the Jayhawks, after both the men's and women's teams won at the Gans Creek Classic. The men's team won with 24 points over second place CSU-Pueblo while the women's team cruised to victory with 31 points over CSU-Pueblo.
In the week one USTFCCCA polls, the Kansas men's team was ranked No. 5 in the Midwest Region and No. 30 in the National Poll, while the women's team was ranked No. 13 in the Midwest Region.
The meet will feature a handful of top teams from around the area including five nationally ranked squads. On the women's side, the Jayhawks will be going up against No. 22 Arkansas, the top ranked team in the South Central region, and No. 26 Missouri who is ranked No. 5 in the Midwest. In addition to the national seeds, Kansas will be taking on five other top-15 teams in the Midwest Region in Missouri (5th), North Dakota (7th), South Dakota (10th), South Dakota State (11th) and Nebraska (14th).
On the men's side, the Jayhawks will be competing against two other nationally ranked teams in No. 16 Arkansas and No. 28 Missouri. Similarly to the women's team, KU will also be racing against its regional opponents, with five other top-15 regional teams competing. The regional competitors are Missouri (4th), Wichita State (9th), Illinois (12th), North Dakota (14th) and South Dakota (15th).
