
No. 19 Jayhawks Break Program Record for Consecutive Set Wins in Sweep of Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Kansas swept Texas Tech, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-16 on Sunday afternoon at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas, improving to 2-0 in Big 12 play.
With the sweep, the Jayhawks broke the program record for most consecutive set wins extending the streak to 24 consecutive set victories. The previous record was set in 2016 with 21 consecutive set victories.
Kansas out-hit Texas Tech .427 to .209 as a team, racking up 51 kills to the Red Raiders' 31. Reese Ptacek led all players with 14 kills and added three blocks, while Taylor Stanley followed with 12 kills and three blocks of her own. Grace Nelson chipped in seven kills and two aces, and Logan Bell also served up a pair of aces. Sophomore setter Reese Messer directed the KU offense with 33 assists, while libero Olivia Hasbrook paced Kansas with 13 digs alongside with six assists and an ace.
Texas Tech jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the opening set, but Stanley got the Jayhawks on the board to make it 2-1, and the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie shortly after. Stanley and Aisha Aiono teamed up for a block to give Kansas a 4-3 lead, and Nelson's ace extended it to 6-3. The Red Raiders battled back to tie it at 7-7 before Kansas took control, with Stanley sparking a 4-0 run from the service line that forced a Texas Tech timeout and made it 11-7. Bell's ace pushed the lead to 13-10, and another 4-0 run with Bell at the line gave Kansas a 15-10 advantage at the media timeout.
Nelson came out of the break and extended the lead to 16-10, and an overhand kill from Stanley pushed it to 20-14 before Bell closed out the set with an ace, 25-17.
Kansas carried the momentum into the second set, going back and forth early before a 4-0 run led by Stanley at the service line put the Jayhawks ahead 7-4. Back-to-back points from Ptacek and Bell extended the lead to 12-6, and Kansas carried a 15-9 advantage into the media timeout.
The Jayhawks kept clicking offensively from there, pushing the lead to 20-11 before a kill from Stanley made it 22-13. Stanley then connected with an assist from Cristin Cline to reach set point at 24-16, and a kill from Cydnee Bryant closed out the set, 25-17.
Nelson got the third set started with a quick kill along the seam, and after a Texas Tech back-row attack made it 3-2, Ptacek and Messer teamed up for a block from the middle to push Kansas ahead 5-3. The Jayhawks then went on a 5-0 run, with Bell serving and Ptacek adding back-to-back kills, to build an 8-3 lead and force a Texas Tech timeout.
Ptacek's kill pushed the lead to 15-10 at the media break, and a Stanley swing made it 20-15, prompting another Texas Tech timeout. Stanley's overhead kill extended the lead to 24-16, and Ptacek closed out the match with an overhand kill, sealing the sweep, 25-16.
Kansas continues Big 12 play Thursday against Utah at 6 p.m. CT at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
