Freshman Season (2003-04)
Earned Honorable Menton All-Big 12… Was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team… Honored with Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Dec. 16… Saw action in 33 games, playing 25.9 minutes per game… Averaged 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per outing… Led the team with 74 three-point baskets… Scored in double figures in 21 games… Scored the first points of his career by chipping in five in 15 minutes against UT Chattanooga on Nov. 21… Poured in 12 points on five-of-seven shooting in his first career start at TCU on Dec. 1… Recorded his first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds versus Fort Hays State on Dec. 10… Went four-of-eight from behind the arc with 18 points against Oregon on Dec. 13… Had 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals against Binghamton on Dec. 29… Scored 18 points and committed zero turnovers in 30 minutes against a tough Texas Tech defense on Feb. 7… Lit up Iowa State for a career-high 24 points while going 7-of-12 from three point range and adding seven rebounds in a career-high 40 minutes on Feb. 21… Tallied 17 points, four rebounds and two blocked shots in his first NCAA Tournament game against Illinois-Chicago on March 19… Scored 13 points on 83 percent shooting against Pacific on March 21… Had 18 points to go with four rebounds versus Alabama-Birmingham on March 26.
Summer (2003)
Named Co-MVP (along with Deron Williams of Team USA) of the 2003 Global Games in Dallas, Texas, where he led his squad to a 3-2 record and the silver medal… Averaged 16.0 points per game… Also won the tournament[apos]s slam dunk contest.
High School
John Marshall High School (2003)… Coached by John Martin… A McDonald[apos]s High School All-American… Ranked as the 17th-best high school prospect in the country by ESPN.com… Named Oklahoma[apos]s Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior… Led the Bears to the class 5A state championship as a senior in Oklahoma[apos]s Lloyd Noble Arena… Earned MVP honors at the Oklahoma state tournament… Averaged just over 22 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior… Racked up 25.0 points per game as a junior, ranking second in the state to current KU teammate Jeremy Case.
Off The Court
An outstanding track athlete in high school, Giddens excelled at the high jump, where he cleared 6-feet, 10-inches… Played summer AAU ball with current KU teammate Jeremy Case… Chose Kansas over Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Illinois… Some former Jayhawks to wear No. 15 include Ray Evans, Bud Stallworth and Jo Jo White.
