Abby Schmidt joined Kansas Athletics in July 2021. She started as a graduate assistant in the facilities & events department before being promoted to Assistant Director of Special Events in January 2023. Schmidt is responsible for soccer event management, facility rentals, camps and clinics, external events and any campus events that involve athletic facilities.

Schmidt came to Kansas following a four-year basketball career at Bethel College in Newton, Kansas. Schmidt was a three-time All-American, three-time KCAC Defensive Player of the Year, three-time All-KCAC First Team selection, and became the first CoSIDA Academic All-American in the history of Bethel women's athletics. Schmidt is the all-time leader in all major rebounding, blocks, and field-goal percentage records, as well as being second in the program's history in points at Bethel.

During her time at Bethel, Schmidt served four years as an athletics administrative assistant. She also spent time as an intern at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2021.

A native of Newton, Kansas, Schmidt graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Bethel College in May 2021 and a master’s degree in sports management from KU in May 2023.
