Kevin Johnson joined the Kansas football staff in 2026 working as an offensive analyst, primarily with the Kansas running backs. Johnson brings experience from multiple Power Conference programs and a background in quarterback play, special teams, and offensive development at both the collegiate and FCS levels.
Johnson most recently served as Special Teams Coordinator and Running Backs Coach at Marist University Athletics during the 2024 season. In his role, he coordinated the Red Foxes' special teams units while overseeing the development of the running backs room. He joined the Marist staff after serving as a graduate assistant at University of Iowa Football in 2023, where he worked primarily with the Hawkeyes’ wide receivers and helped the program capture the Big Ten West Division title and earn a berth in the Citrus Bowl.
Prior to Iowa, Johnson spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic University Football as a special teams analyst from 2021-22. He began his collegiate coaching career at University of Arkansas Football in 2020, where he worked with the running backs and special teams units. Throughout his coaching career, Johnson has gained experience in offensive game planning, player development, recruiting, and special teams coordination.
A former collegiate quarterback, Johnson played at University of Richmond Football from 2015-18 before concluding his playing career at Western Illinois University Football in 2019. During his time at Richmond, he made six career starts and threw for more than 1,300 yards and five touchdowns in the 2018 season. He also played a key role in the Spiders' 2016 FCS playoff run, making his first collegiate start in a postseason victory over North Carolina A&T. At Western Illinois, he threw six touchdown passes in four appearances.
Johnson was a standout multi-sport athlete at Pace Academy, earning First Team All-State honors as a senior quarterback while setting school records for passing yards and touchdown passes. He also competed in basketball and track and field, helping Pace capture a state championship in the 4x400-meter relay.
A native of Brooklyn, Johnson earned his bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Richmond.
