Jayhawks Outlast Mavericks, 63-48

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas sophomore Brooklyn Mitchell and freshman Zakiyah Franklin stole the show in the second half of the game, taking Kansas from a tie to an end score of 63-48 against Omaha on Wednesday night, Nov. 13, inside Allen Fieldhouse.

This win brings the Kansas Jayhawks to a 3-0 record to start the season.

Both Mitchell and Franklin set career-highs this game, Mitchell scoring 15 points total and Franklin bringing in four assists. Mitchell scored six of her points within the first half, leaving the remaining nine points scored after halftime.

Playing a fairly close game up until the end of the first quarter, Kansas was able to break the tie when Holly Kersgieter hit a 3-pointer, bringing the score to 17-14. Kansas was able to remain in the lead throughout the second quarter, and held at least a five-point lead during the third, starting the final quarter with 41-36.

Omaha started the fourth quarter off with a 7-2 run, coming back and tying the game at 43-43. After a timeout called by head coach Brandon Schnieder, the Jayhawks were able to take the lead back, holding at least a 10 point lead throughout the last three minutes of the game. KU ended the game on a 20-5 run, leaving the score at 63-48.
