DURHAM, N.C. – Kansas (3-12) softball dropped its first game of the day at the Duke Softball Field to Mississippi State (13-4), 6-3.
Â
Faced with a similar situation in its game last night against NC State, KU was down three runs in the seventh, but didn’t have to contend with the weather.
Â
Sydnee Ramsey started the inning with a leadoff double that ricocheted off the outfield wall, and Mississippi State decided a pitching change was necessary.
Â
Three batters later, the Jayhawks had the bases loaded with only one out, and had slowly been gaining momentum against the tough Mississippi State squad.
Â
Despite the opportunity Kansas was unable to complete the comeback.
Â
Brynn Minor received the start and pitched the first five innings, allowing all six Bulldog runs. Tarin Travieso appeared in relief and pitched the final inning.
Â
Mississippi State started the contest scoring three runs in the first inning and the game-winning run in the second. Minor attempted to contribute to her decision and added two RBIs on the day.
Â
The Bulldogs responded in the fourth, adding two runs of their own, before Kansas netted its final run of the contest in the sixth.
Â
NOTES
- Brynn Minor tallied two strikeouts against Mississippi State, pushing her season totals to 20.
- Shelby Hughston tallied her fifth RBI of the season and is tied for second on the team behind Shelby Gayre and Becki Monaghan, who each have six RBI.
