SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In a field of 191 participants, Kenadi Krueger and Dorcas Kiptanui led the pack of nine Jayhawks, finishing in the top 75 and securing an 18th-place team finish at the Joe Piane Invitational.
"As a team, we didn't start quickly enough in today's race to position ourselves competitively," Kansas Distance Coach Michael Whittlesey said. "We competed well given where we were in the race, but we needed to be in a better position during the first 1k to perform at our best. Dorcas had a strong start, but Kenadi needs to be up there with her so they can work together throughout the race."
Krueger finished first among the Jayhawks and 41st overall with a 5k time of 16:54.7, marking a new personal best for the super senior by shaving off 32.4 seconds from her previous time earlier this season.
Kiptanui also had a standout performance, earning a top-70 finish in her second race of the college cross country season. She recorded a personal best with a time of 17:10.0, cutting an impressive 1 minute and 12 seconds off her previous record.
"Overall, I believe it was a great competitive opportunity that offered valuable insights into both my performance and the team's current standing," Kruger said. "It highlighted areas for improvement and reinforced the importance of collaboration as we prepare for upcoming races."
Additionally, Tori Wingrove (17:27.5), Laya Erickson (18:28.4), and Eden Schwarz (18:33.1) were also among those competing for the Jayhawks who achieved personal bests in the women's 5K
