LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas tennis announced the signing of Kinley Vanpelt, of Lawrence, Kansas to its 2025 signing class, head coach
Todd Chapman announced on Friday.
Vanpelt, a senior at Lawrence Free State high school, has been ranked as high as No. 21 in the 2025 recruiting class and was named a USA Today All-American. Vanpelt won the Kansas 6A State Championship as a freshman and was the USTA National Doubles Champion and USTA Singles runner-up.
"Ever since I was very little girl growing up in Lawrence, I've wanted to have an opportunity to be a Jayhawk," Vanpelt said. "The coaches, program, and team are top notch as is KU as an academic institution. I wanted wherever I decided to play to feel like "home" but realized there's really no place like my home at Kansas."
Vanpelt adds on to an impressive 2025 signing class, as the additions of Anna Putilina, who was the No. 15 ranked junior in Russia and the JUCO National Champion Yerkezhan Arystanbekova on Oct. 23.
"We couldn't be more excited to Kinley to our Jayhawk Tennis family! It's not everyday that you have the chance to sign a home town player and one that has grown up around your program." Chapman said. "When I came to Kansas 12 years ago I remember this little fiery 5 year old out running around and competing with all of the older kids. Now that young girl is going to be a Jayhawk and that is pretty special. To say we can't wait to get Kinley on the court and start working with her and helping her reach her goals and dreams is an understatement."
Kansas recently completed its fall schedule and will set its sights on the Battle at Indian Wells held in Indian Wells, Calif., from Jan. 16-18, 2025. Kansas will then host seven straight home matches from Jan. 24 to Feb. 7, including matchups with Kansas City, Creighton, Iowa, Omaha, Wichita State, Wisconsin and Arkansas.
