LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer had four Jayhawks named to the College Sport Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday. The honorees included defender
Caroline Castans, midfielder
Makayla Merlo, defender
Brooke Otto and forward
Lexi Watts.

Castans, a sophomore from Flower Mound, Texas, is in her second season and is majoring in marketing. Merlo, a graduate transfer from Broomfield, Colorado, is currently pursuing her master's degree in sport management after obtaining a bachelor's degree in exercise science from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Otto, a junior transfer from Centerburg, Ohio, is in her first season at KU and is studying business administration. Watts, a junior from Lenexa, Kansas, is majoring in marketing.

The 2024-25 Academic All-District Women's Soccer teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. A select number of All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

To qualify for the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, along with having at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Nominated student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the games.
Redshirt sophomore forward Saige Wimes qualified for the honor as well. At the time of the award, Wimes met the qualifications with a 4.0 cumulative GPA and started every game for the Jayhawks in 2024. She finished the season tied for the most assists (7) on the team and third in goals (5) and points (17).Â
