Kansas Cross Country to Open Season at Bob Timmons Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas men's and women's cross country teams are set to kick off their season at home this Saturday morning at the Bob Timmons Classic, held at Rim Rock Farm. The men will race the 6k at 9:00 a.m., followed by the women's 5k at 9:45 a.m.
"We are excited to kick off the year this weekend at Rim Rock," Assistant Coach Michael Whittlesey said. Â "The team has looked good in early-season training, but we need our first test of competition. We are focused on developing a strong team pack in the early races and must stay committed to the team race."Â
The Kansas men's team comes into the meet ranked 10th in the Midwest Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Representing the Jayhawks will be Gabe Birkmeier, Isaac Graff, Ryo Higuchi, Lenny Njoroge, TJ Robinson, Sawyer Robinson, Carter Stewart, Tanner Talley, Quenton Walion, Jack Weber, and Garrett Wilmes.
On the women's side, Bethany Druse, Laya Erickson, Caroline Horning, Dorcas Kiptanui, Kenadi Krueger, Alyson Moore, Eden Schwarz, Abigail Street, Elena Villarreal, and Tori Wingrove will compete in the 5k.
At last year's Bob Timmons Classic, the Kansas men dominated the field with a podium sweep, securing a first-place finish in the 6k. Tanner Newkirk led the charge, clocking a personal best of 18:35.31, followed by Cale Littrell in second with a personal best of 18:45.45, and Tanner Talley rounding out the top three.
The Kansas women's team finished second overall, highlighted by Kenadi Krueger's personal best time of 18:07.65.
