Jaliya Davis and junior guard
S'Mya Nichols combined for 50 points to lead the Jayhawks in the win, with Davis scoring a career-high 28 while Nichols topped the 20-point mark for the second straight game with 22.
Â
For her efforts in that game and the season-opening win over Kansas City, Davis was named to the inaugural Big 12 Starting Five on Monday. The starting five is voted on by a media panel to honor strong performances from across the conference. Davis averaged 19.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 66.7 percent (14-21) from the field across the first two games of her collegiate career.

Nichols has scored at least 20 points in both of KU's games and is leading the Jayhawks with 21.5 points and 7.0 assists per game. In Sunday's win over Northwestern State, Nichols surpassed 1,100 career points and moved up to No. 27 on the school's all-time scoring list, surpassing Brooke Reves, who scored 1,101 points from 1999-2001. Nichols enters Wednesday's game with 1,108 points to her credit.
Â
Davis has scored in double figures in each of her first two games and ranks second on the team in scoring (19.0 points per game) and third in rebounding (4.5 rebounds per game). The transfer from Indiana put up eight points and nine rebounds vs. Kansas City, then followed that with eight points and eight rebounds in the NSU game. Meister is fourth on the team with 8.0 points per game while leading Kansas with 8.5 rebounds per game.

Â
