LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 13 Kansas (19-8, 10-3 Big 12) heads into Week 11 riding a four-match win streak and a perfect November record as the Jayhawks travel to Manhattan for a Sunflower Showdown rematch against Kansas State on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
"The team was able to get a few days off with only one match this week, and I'm hopeful that will serve us well as we enter a tough stretch of four straight games," head coach Matt Ulmer said. "Kansas State is playing very strong and very confident right now. It's going to take our best effort to be successful."
Kansas enters the weekend coming off three straight Big 12 victories, sweeps of West Virginia and Cincinnati and a 3-1 win over No. 20 Colorado. This being a midseason surge for the Jayhawks that has kept KU at No. 13 in the AVCA Top 25 for the second week in a row, their highest regular-season ranking this season.
The rematch carries extra meaning after Kansas State edged KU in a five-set thriller on Oct. 24 in Lawrence. Now on the road, Kansas looks to even the season series and protect its spot near the top of the Big 12 standings; the Jayhawks sit second in the league behind Arizona State.
Offensively, Kansas relies on a balanced attack. Freshman Jovana Zelenovic paces the group with 309 kills, senior Rhian Swanson has 277 kills, and sophomore middle Reese Ptacek leads the team in hitting percentage (.322) while ranking among the Big 12 leaders in both blocks and hitting efficiency. Defensively, KU remains one of the conference's best. The Jayhawks average 2.56 blocks per set and hold opponents to a .167 hitting percentage, the second-lowest mark in the Big 12.
Kansas State comes in at 15-7 (8-6 Big 12) and has its own three-match winning streak. The Wildcats' defense keyed the first meeting, and Saturday's rematch promises major postseason implications for both clubs as the conference race tightens.
