PROVO, Utah – Kansas volleyball dropped its second straight match Saturday, falling to BYU in a three-set sweep as the Cougars overpowered the Jayhawks 25-17, 25-18, 25-20. Despite a strong offensive showing from
Rhian Swanson, who posted 11 kills on .375 hitting, and nine more from
Reese Ptacek, Kansas struggled to slow BYU's .416 attack efficiency and seven service aces. With the loss, the Jayhawks fall to 20-10 overall and 11-5 in conference play.
BYU opened the match on a 3-0 run before Kansas stopped the surge with a kill from Grace Nelson to make it 3-1. The teams traded points early, and Kansas capitalized on two BYU attack errors to stay within reach, trailing 6-4. The Cougars then put together a 5-1 run midway through the set to take a 15-9 lead into the media timeout. Kansas did not back down, finding rhythm offensively and putting together a 4-0 scoring run capped by a BYU attack error to cut the deficit to 19-16 and force a Cougars timeout. Out of the break, BYU responded with four straight points to build a 23-16 advantage and closed out the frame with a kill to take the set 25-17.
In the second set, both teams traded points early and remained tied at 6-6. Kansas then earned its first lead of the match on a BYU attack error, going up 7-6. BYU responded with a 4-0 scoring run, prompting a Kansas timeout to regroup. The Jayhawks answered with a burst of their own, securing three straight points to cut the deficit to 14-12. Both teams then traded 3-0 runs, keeping BYU in front 17-15 midway through the set. The Cougars continued to add pressure with a kill and an ace to stretch the lead to 19-15. Kansas stayed within reach on a Jovana Zelenovic kill, but BYU pushed the margin to 21-16 and later reached set point at 24-17. Reese Ptacek saved one point with a kill, but the Cougars closed the set 25-18 to go up 2-0.
In the third set, BYU jumped out to a 7-2 lead behind three early kills, and a pair of Kansas attack errors, forcing the Jayhawks to call an early timeout. Kansas steadied from there, with Reese Ptacek sparking the offense and a block from Selena Leban and Ptacek cutting the deficit to 7-4. BYU responded with another push, extending its lead to 11-6 and later 13-9. Kansas continued to battle, using kills from Rhian Swanson, Aurora Papac, and Leban to stay within reach at 15-13. But service errors and two BYU aces allowed the Cougars to push ahead 19-14, prompting a second Kansas timeout. KU made one final push, closing to 22-19 on kills from Papac and Zelenovic, but a serving error set up match point, and BYU closed it out with a kill to take the set and sweep the match, 3-0.

Kansas will stay on the road for one final test against Top-25 Iowa State on Nov. 26 at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN+. The Jayhawks will then return home to face UCF on Nov. 29 in their final regular-season match before postseason play begins.
