LAWRENCE, Kan. – The 58th season of intercollegiate women's basketball at the University of Kansas tips off on Wednesday, Nov. 5, as the Jayhawks host Kansas City at Allen Fieldhouse.
Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Josh Klingler (play-by-play) and Brenda VanLengen (analyst) on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Jayhawk Radio Network from Learfield, with Steven Davis and David Lawrence calling the action.
Kansas was picked sixth in the preseason Big 12 coaches poll. KU returns each of its top six scorers and 92.5 percent of the overall scoring from last season.
Head coach
Brandon Schneider is in his 11th season at Kansas and his 28th overall as a collegiate head coach. Schneider has led the Jayhawks to a winning record five times in the past six seasons, with two NCAA Tournament appearances (2022, 2024) and the 2023 WNIT Championship.
The Jayhawks are 46-11 all-time in season openers, including a 9-1 record under Schneider with victories in the opener in eight straight seasons. Kansas has played its season opener at Allen Fieldhouse in each of the past 18 seasons, dating back to 2006-07, when the KU played its first two games in Kansas City.

S'Mya Nichols added 20 points and five assists. Sophomore forward
Regan Williams came off the bench to total 12 points and five rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

Libby Fandel and senior forward
Lilly Meister against FHSU. Fandel totaled eight points and five rebounds, while Meister had six points and six rebounds in the exhibition.
Nichols has received plenty of preseason recognition entering her third season with the Jayhawks. She was named a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and earned a spot on the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year and Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Preseason Watch Lists. The Overland Park native is a two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection, and she ranked fifth in the Big 12 in scoring with 18.6 points per game.
Evans has also earned preseason recognition as one of 20 players nominated for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year watch list. Evans made 69 three-pointers last season, which tied for second in school history for a single season.
Kansas welcomes its highest-ranked recruiting class in recent memory, with the high school class of 2025 finishing ranked No. 7 in the country by ESPNW. The group is comprised of Davis, Fandel,
Keeley Parks and
Tatyonna Brown.
Kansas City was picked sixth in the Summit League's preseason poll after finishing 11-22 (6-10 Summit) last season. KC is led by junior guard Emani Bennett, a preseason all-league first team pick after averaging 15.1 points per game last year.
Wednesday's matchup will be the 24th all-time meeting between Kansas and Kansas City, a series dating back to 1988. The Jayhawks are 19-4 all-time against the Roos, including four straight victories and wins in 10 of the last 11 matchups. KU defeated Kansas City 79-49 in the last meeting on Dec. 11, 2024, in Lawrence.
