LAWRENCE, Kan. – The month of December starts with the Kansas Jayhawks making a road trip to Evanston, Illinois, to face the Northwestern Wildcats on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
The game, which will be the first true road game of the season for Kansas, will tip off at 7 p.m. CT from Welsh-Ryan Arena and be broadcast on B1G+, with Ethan Segall (play-by-play) and Brendan Preisman (analyst) on the call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Jayhawk Radio Network from Learfield, with Steven Davis calling the action.
Kansas saw its unbeaten start to the season end at six games after going 0-2 at the Fort Myers Tip-Off. The Jayhawks dropped a 68-62 contest against Georgia on Nov. 28, before falling 59-58 to Dayton in a close battle on Nov. 29.
Junior guard
S'Mya Nichols had a historic performance against Georgia, scoring a career-high 40 points while shooting 12-of-17 from the field and hitting 14 free throws. Nichols became the first Kansas player to score 40 or more points in a game since Vickie Adkins went for 41 against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Dec. 15, 1984. For her efforts, Nichols was rewarded with a spot on the Big 12 Starting Five, announced Monday by the league office.
Nichols has scored in double figures seven times in KU's first eight games, including five games of at least 20 points. She is now averaging 20.1 points per game, which ranks third in the Big 12 and No. 25 nationally. During her career performance vs. Georgia, Nichols climbed two spots on KU's all-time scoring list, and she enters the week No. 24 in school history with 1,226 career points.
Senior guard
Elle Evans reached a pair of milestones during the Fort Myers Tip-Off. She surpassed the 1,400-point mark for her career on Friday vs. Georgia, then knocked down her 200th career three-pointer Saturday vs. Dayton. Evans, who ranks third on the team at 11.0 points per game, is now one of 19 active NCAA Division I players with 200 or more career three-pointers made.
Senior forward
Lilly Meister pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds against Georgia and reached double figures in scoring for the second time this season with 11 points vs. Dayton. She ranks fifth on the team in scoring at 8.4 points per game, while leading the Jayhawks with 7.3 rebounds per game this season. Meister also set new career highs with four blocked shots and three steals in the Dayton game.
Sophomore forward
Regan Williams had her fourth double-figure scoring night of the season, going for 11 points against Dayton. Wiliams is KU's No. 4 leading scorer (9.5 ppg) and ranks second on the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.
Kansas heads to face a Northwestern team that started the season 6-0 before dropping an 85-70 contest to Missouri on Nov. 29 in the bracket opposite KU at the Fort Myers Tip-Off. The Wildcats defeated Abilene Christian 62-59 to win their first game in Florida.
Wednesday night's contest will be the fifth all-time meeting between Kansas and Northwestern in women's basketball. The series is tied 2-2, with KU winning the last matchup 66-57 on Dec. 20, 2018, in Las Vegas.
